Jon Sweet is not only an incredible drill designer, but a colleague and friend.  Full disclosure, I’m not a big marching band guy.  We don’t compete in a circuit or go to BOA. We have a strong overall program with IN State Finals appearances in both Concert and Jazz. Our Marching Band is completely voluntary and extracurricular.  We march about 140 out of 300 in our band program. We have baton twirlers. We play stock arrangements. We have an at school band camp and about 5 hours a week of rehearsal. I need a fan friendly drill that looks cool and teaches easy. Jon provides exactly what we need at just the right level. I have heard horror stories about writers sending drill habitually late. That has never been an issue with Jon. He has a gift for writing and can produce cool drill in a very timely manner. What you initially receive is a draft. I’ve often approved the first draft, but when I’ve asked for tweaks to make it work for our kids, he has obliged quickly and without complaint. More importantly, we’ve developed a relationship where I feel like his drill fits my teaching style and preferences better every year. My programs are more successful each year as well. Part of that is the growth of our students, but a big part of it is that Jon’s design sets us up for success.
